DJ MAG TOP 100 : Umek at 29

Yes, it’s true! It’s more of a beauty contest, based on popularity, than anything else. So, it’s no disaster if you happen to slide out of the top 100. However, it sure feels good if you are listed. The higher you rank - the better the feeling! And if you ask DJ Umek – the feelings, following announcement of this year’s official results of the DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll couldn’t have been any better. For the first time in history, Umek climbed 53 places to place no. 29 and entered the elite club of the top 30 DJs on the planet. He was even invited to perform at the official Top 100 DJs party in London on Wednesday.
The acknowledgement from the battlefield has come at the right time, too. After becoming a globally established artist and promoting his unique style, Umek returned to the drawing board, where he spent almost two years, developing the innovative Astrodisco concept. Due to strong criticism by his former supports, the results of the poll confirm that he made the right decision. Obviously, the Astrodisco sound conquered the planet and convinced many music-lovers to take their time and cast their vote for Umek in this year’s Top 100 DJs poll. It was a tough year, but a very satisfying one. A year full of creativity bugs, adrenaline rushes while performing at top global events and constant meeting of great people. It’s a rough game – but someone’s got to play it. In the end it’s all about having a great time with soul-mates, who know how to enjoy a good party.
