release : 16th Century Japan

30th May 2009 / Comments (0) / Views (1738)

Five years have passed since the Astrodisco project was initiated and although Astrodisco has been around for quite a while now, it surely won't run out of creativity in the near future. While creating a new breed of techno, sometimes described as “discodelic electro”, Umek did not only manage to form a promising crew of young DJs and producers, but has, at the same time, also filled an empty space in Slovenia’s clubbing scene, reaching out for and attracting attention of a somewhat unconventional crowd.

The two featured tracks and Umek’s Astro production as a whole somehow embody the highest qualities of all of his long years work. Although Umek never stopped experimenting and has transgressed the boundaries of genres at all times, he always managed to stay true to two axioms of electronic dance music: danceability and atmosphere. Danceability – because it has to be suitable for dancing; atmosphere – because it has to make the crowd want to dance. One way or another, it is the realisation of ‘these inviolable sanctities’ – as the distorted voice in 16th century Japan would have put it – that distinguishes a truly great electronic music and Umek’s way of achieving it remains one of the most convincing in contemporary musical world.

EP is already available exclusively on beatport.com.

Tracklist:
1. Umek - 16th Century Japan 6:01
2. Umek - Before Violence 5:31
