New release: Umek - Novi Sad

Pronounced "novee saad" ("new plantation" in English), the city is a capitol of Vojvodina, a Serbian province. With its ideal position next to the Danube river, Novi Sad is one of Serbia's economical pillars as well as a cultural hub. Early settlers, mostly merchants built most of the city's landmarks, including the spectacular Petrovaradin fortress, The name of Mary Church and some impressive parts of Stari Grad (the Old Town). Today's Novi Sad citizens still hold on to their ancestors's roots and keep putting the city on the world's cultural map every year with world famous Exit festival.

One of Europe's biggest open-air festivals started as a fuck-you to then repressive regime. Similar to Woodstock, the roots of Exit lie in pacifism and anti-establishemt movements. Later on the festival became an annual thing, attended by young people from all over the world and hosting some of world's biggest artists such as Carl Cox, David Guetta, Massive Attack, Fatboy Slim, Moby and of course Umek :)

No wonder the city has got a very strong electronic music movement. The guys from Respect DJs work their ass off in order to provide their followers with the latest from dance music scene. Also with their hard work Novi Sad definitely became the Balkan's capitol of electronic music.
