1605-075 : UMEK - Zagreb EP
25th July 2011 / Comments (0) / Views (1520)
Just a one hour drive from Umek's hometown of Ljubljana, lies Zagreb, the capitol of Croatia. Unlike fellow Slovenians, the Croats don't have any problems with explaining foreigners how their capitol's name is pronounced.
Beside being an economical and political capitol, Zagreb is also an important cultural hub of the whole region. It's open air arenas and concert halls are known for hosting massive global stars like Rolling Stones, U2, Metallica, Lady Gaga, Eric Clapton, Beyonce and others. While it's practically impossible to sell out a stadium in a nearby Ljubljana, the Croats managed to sell out two consecutive U2 concerts and there was still room for one more. Beside rock and pop music, there's also a very strong electronical movement in Zagreb. Umek already rocked a few clubs there, including Zagreb's Best Club and Arena, where he played with David Guetta. Although they lack a global techno star, the Croats have a few notable DJs, including Kiki, Frajman and Felver of Stereo Studio team and DJ Petar Dundov who used to be a resident in Ambasada Gavioli along with Umek.
Trivia: did you know that the Croats invented a neck tie?
